HKFO2012: Rhapsody in Red – Mary WU’s Rachmaninoff 節樂2012: 紅色狂想曲 – 吳美樂的拉赫曼尼諾夫
On 17 August, HKFO continues the rhapsodic journey performing Rimsky-Korsakov Overture to “The Tsar’s Bride”, leading the audience to witness the fateful dramas in the Imperial Russian courts. This is followed by Hong Kong’s great piano maestro Mary WU’s rendition of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2, an absolute piano classic representing the exiled composer’s struggle against depression.
Nicole Corti’s Choeur Britten from Lyon and Hong Kong pianist Mary Wu join forces for a rare performance of Olivier Messiaen’s Three Small Liturgies of the Divine Presence, a transcendental orchestral-choral work scored for Ondes Martenot, piano, strings, percussion and female voices programmed especially to mark the anniversary year of one of France’s true musical visionaries.
Today marks the launch of Pianist Mary Wu’s official website and YouTube channel. As a treat to everyone we are putting up a series of archived video via YouTube. Please visit our facebook fan page for the complete listing.
